Wow, here's a story I wanted to share with other frog owners... I've had my frog for about 3 months, and from the first day I got him, I've been using the coconut fiber substrate along with real plants, and terrarium moss to keep the humidity in. I am always careful when taking out all sharp objects and what not and I have never had a problem until this incident. I noticed my frog hopping around during the daytime, which was out of the norm. When I took a closer look, he had a large piece of the moss coming out his backside, he was trying to push out. It turned out to be a huge stick, and as it came out, so did his rectum This was the first time anything of the sort has happened, so I rushed him to the pet hospital. They pushed it back in, sutured it up and gave me antibiotics. Just three days ago, he pushed out a stool on his own successfully without the rectum slippin out again ;D So as a precaution now, I am keeping him on small crickets for just a bit longer, and took out all the terrarium moss. Now he is back to his normal self, save for the fact I have to disrupt him nightly to give him antibiotics Any other owners had similar problems before with the moss and their frogs, healthwise?

i use moss around his water bowl, and where he likes to burrow, the rest i leave open so he gets crickets instead of moss. or you can tong feed them but thats a PIA cause they spook easy, well mine does. use moss but use small amounts and not where he is feeding.

I'm so glad I found this! One day while cleaning my tank, I noticed the very same problem with one of my tree frogs. I had also never heard of this happening and I didn't see any strange behaviors or symptoms before hand. A girl I knew had this happen because she was O.C.D. and used to force herself, I was starting to think my frog needed therapy!
